15 – 19 August 2017
Worcester, UK
Soak up 1000 years of history in Voces Academy’s 8th Annual Summer Conducting Program, taking place this year in the beautiful city of Worcester. Conductors are offered the opportunity to work intensively on a variety of a cappella choral works with internationally respected conductor, Peter Hanke, within the breathtaking Worcester Cathedral. The program will focus on conducting gesture and the exploration of the conductor’s role as an inspiring and effective leader. The masterclass will be joined by London-based chamber choir, Evoke.
Voces Academy is pleased to be collaborating with the Worcester Festival, Worcester Cathedral and the Elgar School of Music for this event.
Musical Leadership
The Voces Academy philosophy focuses on musical leadership just as much as on conducting techniques. Through mutual exploration of the conductor’s personal approach and inspirational abilities, an individualised map of how to develop great conducting emerges.
Peter’s teaching techniques emphasize that effective choral direction can communicate inspiration, express articulation and phrasing, and take a position on musical requirements in such a way that the ensemble members feel both free and in great demand. The methodology focuses on elements of leadership in rehearsal situations, conducting technique and on the conductor’s physical communication with the ensemble, where all movement can be musical expression.
